On Monday, I had the privilege of joining key federal Ministers and the Atlantic region’s Premiers for the announcement of the Atlantic Growth Strategy. This significant announcement is the first step in what I believe will be a long line of positive initiatives aimed at promoting economic growth and furthering opportunity in Atlantic Canada.
The first announcement of the Atlantic Growth Strategy is an update to our immigration targets: beginning in 2017, the region will seek… to take in an additional 2,000 immigrant families per year. We know that the Atlantic region needs to do something to ensure it can sustain itself; this initiative will go a long way to ensuring our communities continue to thrive. Charlottetown has seen significant immigration over the past several years, and we can objectively say we are better for it.
Over the coming months, I look forward to connecting with various groups and, of course, individual constituents on their thoughts regarding how we can sustain and grow Atlantic Canada. Please get in touch with my office at any time to share your thoughts, or comment below. You can find more information on the Atlantic Growth Strategy here: http://www.acoa-apeca.gc.ca/ags-sca/eng/
