Budget 2018: Investing in the Environment

No matter what challenges they faced, Canadians have always looked to the future—working hard to build a more prosperous and more just world for themselves, their children and their grandchildren.

They understand that our quality of life—and our present and future prosperity—is deeply connected to the environment in which we live.

Through Budget 2018, the Government will support a clean environment for future generations, with proposed measures that will:

  • Make a historic $1.3 billion investment to protect Canada’s nature, parks and wild spaces, so that future generations of Canadians can continue to hike in our forests and swim in our lakes.
  • Protect, preserve and recover endangered whale species in Canada with funding for research to help us better understand the factors affecting the health of these whales, as well as actions that we can take now to help address threats arising from human activities.
  • Help combat climate change and grow the economy by supporting the development and implementation of the federal carbon pollution pricing system.

Budget 2018 upholds Canada’s place in the world with investments that protect our environment and promote equality and prosperity for those who need it most at home and around the world.

As Canadians, we understand that the environment and the economy go hand in hand.

By protecting the environment and building a more sustainable economy, we are ensuring that we can share the prosperity we create with this generation and the next.

Budget 2018 takes us one step further in protecting Canada’s environment, so that future generations of Canadian children can build their own memories and feel more connected to this extraordinary country.
